New MacBook Pro with Core i9

Apple has updated its 13-inch and 15-inch Touch Bar MacBook Pros on Thursday with 8th generation Intel Core Processors, support upto 32 GB of DDR memory in the notebook. Intel on Tuesday unveiled its latest laptop processors based on the Coffee Lake platform, most notably bringing its high-performance Core i9 line to laptops for the first time in the same thermal profile that the existing 15-inch MacBook Pro design.

The 15-inch model comes with 6-core Intel Core i7 and i9 processors rated at up to 2.9 GHz with turbo boost speed, up to 4.9 GHz. It offers up to 4 TB of SSD storage and 32 GB of RAM. Similarly 13-inch model has quad-core Intel Core i5 and i7 processors rated at up to 2.7 GHz with Turbo Boost speed up to 4.5 GHz. It has double the eDRAM of its predecessors and up to 2 TB of SSD storage and 16 GB of RAM.

Both laptops still use Thunderbolt 3 for data transfer, so you’ll have to deal with dongles. Despite complaints for pros, there are no USB Type-A ports, SD card slots, DisplayPort or HDMI outputs. Apple updated the video editing suite with 8K video support, and the extension of 360-degree VR video to Motion and Compressor. The processors still do not support LPDDR4 memory, sticking with the same LPDDR3 as found in the 2016 and 2017 MacBook Pro limiting RAM to 16 GB. As a result, should Apple choose to bring 32 GB of RAM to any new MacBook Pro, it would have to use DDR4 RAM, asssnd implement a controller for it with both having large impacts on battery life.

Price and Availability

The updated 13-inch MacBook Pro starts at US$1,800 and the updated 15-inch model at $2,400. Both are available at Apple.com, and at select Apple Stores and Apple Authorized Resellers. Last year Apple offers a $300 to upgrade better Intel processors with 2.6 GHz Core i7 chip, but this year now with Macbook Pro you can pay extra $400 for 32 GB RAM or extra $3,200 for 4TB of storage. A maxed-out 15-inch updated MacBook Pro costs $6,700, according to Apple.
