Samsung Reveals Best C43J89 Ultrawide Gaming Monitor

In this starting year Samsung announced monitors in CES 2018, but those had some problems related to pixels and hardware. Firstly the screen has resolution of 3840×1200 and secondly it is 49 inches wide. That’s a BIG monitor. Not just big, but pixels from screen also spread out far, it’s not going to be that sharp as compared to other model of Samsung. The ultra wide format of the C43J89 is similar like two 1920×1200 monitors side by side with a single screen, and there is not any problem with frames and structure because they are design in such a way that it will give a best gaming experience.

The monitors uses a VA panel and offers a refresh rate of 120Hz, unfortunately Samsung has not included features like AMD Freesync and Nvidia G-sync in the display session. It supports 8-bit colours with gray to gray response time of 5ms, pixel density of 93.56 pixels per inch and 99 percentage has a standard sRGB colour gamut.

The Samsung C43J89 also has a features  like picture by picture function which basically spilt the screen into two different screen and simultaneously run different application at a time without degrading quality of image. User can simultaneously conduct various activities such as game, browse a web, watch a movie or Youtube videos, social media etc. A special one-touch button under the monitor panel facilitates the task of toggling between the devices.

In terms of design, the C43J89 features a fexible stand where user can swivel/tilt  with adjustable stand so that you can move the screen very comfortably. The panel’s VESA Standard mount also offers the option of mounting on VESA-compatible arms. There’s also a pair of 5W stereo speakers on the monitor for users who want to make use of the monitor’s audio abilities. This stereo speakers provides very powerful soundstage so that you can enjoy all your games, music and movies with clear sound.

Connectivity options on the C43J89 include one HDMI 2.0 port, one DisplayPort 1.2 output, two USB-C ports, one USB-C up port, two USB 2.0 down ports, one USB 3.0 down port and a 3.5mm headphone jack. USB type-C is used to transmits data, videos and audio, and power all over a single cable. You can also connect smartphone, tablet or laptop to one of the monitor’s two USB type-C port to display content onscreen and charge any connected devices at the same time. The KVM switch is also built in this display to control two devices connected to monitor with just one keyboard and mouse through monitor panel.

The Samsung C43J89 is currently up for pre-order in the U.S. for $900 with the units expected to will be available later this year and very soon it is also available in India. This is best monitor for gaming professionals and in business work.

  1. At first glance the Samsung C43J89 is top of the bill. However, it has 3 design flaws that I see nowhere reported on the internet:
1 The connectors at the back: flexibility of the wiring may be an issue and it is cumbersome to change the wiring in particular when mounted at the wall. You have to be able to look upward, on your knees, at the back of the device to see what you are doing.
2 The cover of the standard that enables the hiding of wires can come off easily; don’t touch that if you want to turn/move the monitor or it may come off causing the monitor to tilt. That happend to me resulting in an irreparable damaged screen when it tilted against my open laptop (damage excluded from warranty).
3 The embedded KVM switch does not come with proper software; if you switch between PC’s you will get messages about connected/disconnected mouse/keyboard and your programs will move their displays to another display (if available, as is the case with a connected laptop).

My conclusion: beautiful screen but a disappointing KVM function and too vulnerable for use on a desk against a wal.
